❓ How This Works

Choose the way a player selects, then tune it for that person. Touch, pointer access, gaze with a confirmation switch, and one- or two-switch scanning are different paths—not one universal hover system.

1

Choose the player's access path

Player Access Setup starts with the physical action the player uses. It saves the choice to that player's profile, so the same setup follows them from game to game and remains changeable later.

👆 Touch or mouse

Tap or click a target directly. A real touch or click activates immediately; the player is not required to wait through a hold.

👁 Gaze, head mouse, or joystick pointer

Move the on-screen pointer to a target. Choose Move over it for immediate pointer selection or Hold still for a visible dwell ring or bar. Hold time can be shortened or lengthened for the individual player.

👁🔘 Eye gaze + switch confirmation

Point with eye gaze, then press a separate switch to confirm the target under the pointer. The confirmation key starts as Space and can be remapped to match the switch interface.

🔘 One-switch auto scanning

A highlight advances automatically through the current choices. Press the switch to select the highlighted choice. Scan speed, first-item pause, loop limit, debounce, and the Select key can be adjusted.

🔘🔘 Two-switch manual scanning

One switch moves to the next choice and the other selects it. Space and Enter are the starting keys; both can be remapped for the player's interface.

2

Visible and spoken scan previews

Switch scanning uses a clear visual highlight. Optional auditory previews can speak each choice as it is highlighted. Speech is optional because some players prefer sound off or use another communication system alongside the game.

Try hold selection

Move a cursor over the button and hold still to see one direct-access option. A click or tap still works immediately.

3

Settings persist per player

Access method, selection timing, scan keys, spoken previews, motion, contrast, sound, and interface size are saved to the active player on this device. They can be changed in Player Access Setup or with the settings gear ⚙️. If an adult enables account sync, supported settings can also follow that account.

Recovery is part of access. Scanning pauses after its chosen loop limit instead of running forever; pressing the switch restarts it. The shared Pause control stops game activity, Escape can leave scanning, and a player can try again after a missed or unintended choice. Remappable keys and debounce help prevent one press from being counted twice.
Support is validated game by game. A visible highlight or working keypress is not enough to call a game switch-accessible. Moving, timed, and continuous-control games may need a purpose-built alternative play loop. Player Access Setup shows the current support status, and a game is only presented as supported after its full setup, play, pause, recovery, replay, and exit path has been checked for that access method. Real switch and eye-gaze hardware testing is still required.
